Growing & Tree CareWhy should shoots below a mango's graft be removed?
Shoots below the graft belong to the rootstock rather than the named variety above it. If allowed to dominate, they can compete with the intended canopy and make later identification confusing. Locate the graft before removing growth, particularly on a recently damaged tree. Marking that location in a photograph helps you distinguish useful scion regrowth from rootstock shoots during future inspections.
