Routine pruning during flowering removes some of the very terminals carrying the potential crop. Decide whether the immediate goal is harvest, establishment, or correction of a structural problem before cutting. On a weak young tree, removing reproductive growth may be intentional; on a bearing tree, widespread cutting can sacrifice production. Hazardous limbs require separate attention regardless of the flowering stage.
