A split can compromise the connection supporting a large part of the canopy, even when leaves remain green. Keep people away from the affected area and have an arborist inspect the attachment and remaining framework. Fruit load and wind can add stress before visible wilting develops. Do not treat tape, rope, or a homemade prop as proof that a major structural split has been repaired.
