Soil, Fertilizer & WateringDoes a mango need an exact soil pH to remain healthy?
Mangoes commonly perform well in slightly acidic to near-neutral soil, but they also grow in alkaline and calcareous sites with appropriate nutrient management. There is no single pH number that guarantees success in every soil. Test the soil before adding lime or sulfur, and interpret the result alongside drainage and leaf symptoms. Trying to force a limestone planting site to an arbitrary target can be impractical and harmful.
Mango can grow across different soil conditions, so a single preferred number should not become a reason for repeated blind amendment. The important question is whether pH is limiting nutrient availability or contributing to another diagnosed problem. Interpret pH with soil type, foliage analysis, and local experience. Calcareous landscapes and acidic tropical soils often require different management even when their trees show similar yellowing.
