Soil, Fertilizer & WateringWhat should I investigate when water ponds around a mango after rain?
Mango roots need air as well as water, so continuously saturated or repeatedly flooded soil is a poor growing environment. A tree may wilt or yellow even while the ground is wet because damaged roots cannot function normally. Correct drainage before simply increasing irrigation or fertilizer. Where flooding cannot be avoided, a different planting position or an appropriately designed raised site is more useful than repeatedly replacing a declining tree.
Observe where the water arrives, how long it remains, and whether the soil below stays saturated after the surface clears. Runoff from paving, a blocked drainage route, and a high water table need different solutions. Avoid adding irrigation while the root zone remains wet. Document the pattern through more than one rain event before selecting a drainage change, especially where neighboring land contributes water.
