Support the rootstock container beside the selected mother-tree branch before cutting either partner. The support must prevent the pot from sagging and the joined stems from pulling apart as they move. Check access for watering without disturbing the connection. Binding the graft cannot compensate for an unstable container, so arrange the whole setup first and reassess it after wind, irrigation, or movement around the mother tree.
