Compare the new material's tension, sealing behavior, and removal requirements with the previous binding. Inspect failed unions for movement, drying gaps, bark injury, or constriction rather than treating every loss as the same event. Retain a sample of the material and record which plants received it. Check whether scion source, operator, or weather also changed, so a real handling problem is not confused with another change made on the same date.
