Arrange the work so fresh scionwood reaches prepared rootstocks promptly. Collection is most useful after the tools, labels, and aftercare space are ready. If the work is interrupted, protect the remaining sticks from drying and record the delay. Using fresh material does not guarantee a union, but it removes a handling variable that makes an unsuccessful graft harder to diagnose afterward.
