At minimum, preserve the claimed variety, source tree, and collection date through every transfer. A bundle label is useful until sticks are separated, when individual labels or a clear bench map become necessary. Label the rootstock before making the cut rather than trusting memory afterward. Reliable identity records make a successful graft valuable and allow a mistaken or unhealthy source to be traced before more plants are distributed.
