In approach grafting, the selected shoot remains attached to its mother plant while it is joined to a rooted stock. Both partners retain support during the initial joining process. The practical challenge is holding them together without movement and managing their eventual separation. This can suit a small accessible collection, but arranging containers beside mother-tree branches can be cumbersome for a nursery producing many plants.
