Softwood grafting uses suitable young growth on an established seedling rootstock, rather than the very young seedling used in stone grafting. The scion still needs the condition and preparation specified by the method. Nursery descriptions should identify both pieces clearly, since the term can otherwise invite confusion. Ask to see the actual receiving shoot and finished union when learning the technique from a local propagator.
