It may be reusable if enough healthy stem and vigor remain for another properly placed graft. Remove failed material and inspect the surrounding tissue before deciding where to cut. Correct any underlying growing problem first, and use fresh scionwood for the new attempt. Repeating the operation on a declining stock can consume good material without resolving the reason the first union failed.
