Avoid combining an unsettled graft with unnecessary root disturbance. Prepare the rootstock's container needs beforehand when possible, then allow the graft to establish under manageable conditions. If drainage or another urgent problem requires intervention, support the stem and preserve the root ball as carefully as possible. Record the extra operation, because later wilting may reflect more than the grafting technique alone.
