Mango FAQ

Grafting & PropagationCan mango trees be propagated by air layering?

Air layering has been reported in mango, but its reliability and the performance of resulting plants are limited enough that it is not a general replacement for grafting. Distinguish getting roots on a branch from producing a strong, useful tree. Avoid applying a success claim from one experimental situation to all mangoes. If preserving a valuable tree is the priority, maintain a proven grafted backup rather than relying entirely on a layer.
