Male flowers supply pollen, while perfect flowers contain both male and female reproductive structures. The female structures make the latter the potential sites of fruit formation. Use a hand lens when learning to distinguish them, because the flowers are small. Count or photograph representative flowers rather than judging a whole tree by one cluster, and avoid interpreting an abundance of male flowers as a disease by itself.
