Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Flowering & PollinationWhy does my mango produce leaves when I expected flowers?

First check whether the tree is old enough to flower, receives full sun, and has mature shoots rather than a continual soft flush. Recent or repeated pruning, excess nitrogen, unsuitable seasonal weather, and root or water stress can all interfere. An otherwise healthy young seedling may simply still be juvenile. Review its growing history before changing care; adding more fertilizer or applying an unverified flowering treatment is not a dependable solution.

The new growth may reflect shoot immaturity or conditions favoring vegetative development when the buds began growing. Review recent pruning, fertilizer, irrigation, and weather together. A green flush does not identify which one was decisive. Keep the current growth healthy and record its timing, then use that information to plan the next season rather than repeatedly cutting it off in an attempt to force an immediate flower response.
