Mango FAQ

Flowering & PollinationWhen can insect-exclusion bags interfere with mango flower pollination?

A bag placed over an unopened panicle can prevent insects from reaching flowers as they open. That may be intentional in a controlled experiment, but it changes the conditions from ordinary open pollination. Decide whether the bag is protecting flowers, excluding pollen movement, or serving a later purpose before installing it. Keep the timing explicit so a protected cluster is not later compared with an exposed cluster as though both received equal access.
