Flowering & PollinationDo ants on mango panicles prove that pollination is adequate?
Ant abundance does not by itself measure how much mango pollen reaches receptive flowers. Visitors differ in pollen loads and in how they contact floral structures. Watch their behavior as well as their numbers, and inspect for other insects using the clusters. If ants dominate a photograph, that is a useful observation to investigate, but it is insufficient evidence either to declare pollination complete or to remove all ants immediately.
