Visible pollen establishes presence, not its ability to germinate and function. If poor pollen performance is suspected, discuss appropriate testing with a horticultural laboratory rather than inferring viability from color or quantity. Supply the conditions and flower stage under which material was collected. This distinction is useful after adverse weather, when apparently normal pollen and an active insect community do not rule out a reproductive limitation.
