Count the attached fruit individually rather than treating each occupied panicle as one mango. Revisit the same sampling areas as natural shedding changes the number retained. Record fruit count separately from flowering-panicle count so the two measures cannot be confused when comparing dates. For a commercial estimate, check whether heavily clustered parts of the canopy are overrepresented in the sampled trees.
