Fruit Development, Ripening & HarvestDoes a large early fruit count reliably predict mango harvest tonnage?
An early count is a provisional estimate because fruit retention and final fruit size still change. Mark a consistent group of trees and revise the estimate as development proceeds, recording losses separately from changes in average fruit weight. Include the sampling date with every forecast. This makes labor and carton planning easier to adjust when the crop diverges from the first estimate.
