Brix measures soluble solids and is useful alongside other observations, but it does not capture every aspect of maturity. A single juice reading can conceal differences among fruit and within a sample. Combine it with flesh color, fruit shape, and an appropriate maturity reference. For meaningful comparisons, use the same sampling procedure rather than alternating between a surface scraping and a whole-cheek sample.
