Select fruit from the areas and flowering groups that the proposed harvest will actually include. Keep obvious differences in exposure, size, or development visible in the sample instead of choosing only attractive fruit. Label the collection locations and assess individual results as well as the average. A sample that reveals immature pockets can support selective picking and prevent an avoidable mixed-maturity lot.
