Tree ripening is possible, but soft fruit are more vulnerable to falling and handling damage, and some internal disorders become more troublesome. For immediate backyard use, inspect frequently and pick before fruit become difficult to handle intact. For transport, choose an appropriate earlier maturity stage. Compare a few fruit from both approaches rather than assuming longer hanging always gives better usable quality.
