A clean, sharp blade makes a controlled cut and reduces the need to crush or wrench the stalk. Inspect the cutting action before work and remove sap buildup as it accumulates. Keep the blade positioned away from the fruit surface when placing the picking head. If cuts become ragged, stop and correct the tool rather than letting the same problem affect the entire lot.
