Cartons must provide physical protection while allowing the airflow required by the cooling and shipping system. Check that vents remain useful after stacking and that the carton retains strength under actual handling conditions. Trial the complete pallet arrangement rather than evaluating an empty box alone. Fruit condition at different positions in the load can reveal problems hidden by a uniform air-temperature reading.
