Ethylene signals ripening in fruit capable of responding; it does not supply sugar or repair inadequate harvest maturity. A successful program also depends on temperature, airflow, humidity, and the incoming fruit's condition. Ask for records of these factors when investigating uneven results. Increasing gas exposure alone is not a sound response when the real issue is mixed maturity or poor temperature management.
