Do not assume an unmanaged compost pile will eliminate the organism involved. Identify the problem and follow local disposal guidance, especially for regulated pests or material containing live larvae. Keep suspect waste on the property while obtaining instructions rather than transporting it to a shared garden. Routine sanitation is useful only when the disposal method avoids returning viable pests to the planting or moving them somewhere new.
