Support the cover so it protects the canopy and extends to the ground, with edges secured against displacement. Check that the frame will not abrade tender shoots as wind moves the fabric. Leave access for inspecting the tree and reading a thermometer beneath the protection. A loose cap over the top of the leaves does not create the same enclosure as a carefully fitted ground-reaching cover.
