Judge recovery by living framework and healthy new growth before expecting normal fruit production. Damage to flowering wood and the resources needed to rebuild foliage can change the following crop. Keep the tree's recovery record separate from ordinary yield comparisons. A season with little fruit after substantial injury does not by itself show that the cultivar is unsuitable, but repeated damage may show that the site is unreliable.
