A much larger container is not automatically an improvement for a small root system. Consider how easily you can assess the root ball and the surrounding mix, and whether the container will remain movable. Select a size that accommodates healthy expansion without making care and later handling unnecessarily difficult. Inspect actual root development before the next move rather than stepping through a fixed sequence based only on the tree's age.
