Soil that performs well in the ground may behave differently when confined in a pot. Check whether it compacts, drains poorly, or becomes difficult to handle before using it as the principal medium. A purpose-made container substrate offers more control over the root environment and consistency between plants. Do not interpret mango's ability to grow in several field soil types as proof that any excavated soil will be suitable in a container.
