Climate, Cold & Container GrowingShould stones in the bottom of a mango pot substitute for drainage holes?
No. Stones do not create an outlet for water from a sealed container and they occupy space that could otherwise hold the growing medium. Choose effective drainage openings and a suitable substrate instead of depending on a hidden bottom layer. If weight is needed for stability, solve that as a separate handling and container-design question. Keep the root zone accessible enough to evaluate its condition during future repotting.
