Base the decision on root condition, available space, and the tree's ability to recover, rather than the anniversary of its last repotting. Root cutting is an injury and should have a clear purpose, such as addressing a specific deformity or managing confinement. Ask an experienced mango nursery to assess a valuable specimen before substantial work. There is no universal percentage of roots to remove that can be applied safely to every tree and environment.
