Seeds, Rootstocks & BreedingWhat does monoembryonic mean when choosing mango seed?
A monoembryonic mango seed contains one embryo produced through sexual reproduction. Its seedling receives a combination of parental genes, so planting a seed from an excellent fruit does not reproduce that named cultivar. Treat the plant as a new seedling with untested fruit characteristics. For a backyard with room for only one predictable fruit tree, a correctly identified vegetatively propagated cultivar is the more practical choice.
