Seeds, Rootstocks & BreedingWhat is a nucellar mango seedling?
A nucellar seedling develops from maternal tissue associated with the seed rather than from the fertilized egg. It is consequently expected to carry the maternal genotype, which is useful when raising rootstocks with consistent genetic backgrounds. Do not confuse this origin with identical growing conditions or identical field performance. Plants with the same genotype can still differ because of root damage, nutrition, competition, or their planting position.
