Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Seeds, Rootstocks & BreedingHow can a breeder identify the zygotic seedling in a polyembryonic mango family?

A zygotic seedling comes from fertilization and may differ genetically from its seed parent. A laboratory can compare suitable DNA markers in the mother tree and seedlings to help distinguish sexual offspring from maternal seedlings. Preserve individual identities before submitting samples, including siblings from the same stone. Ask what the marker panel can actually resolve, because a limited or uninformative test should not be reported as certain parentage.
