Label it with a unique seedling number and the known seed source, such as a named mother tree or purchased fruit lot. A fruit label is evidence about the fruit received, not proof that a sexual seedling is that cultivar. Keep collection date and any uncertainty beside the identifier. If the tree later produces excellent fruit, its original record will remain useful without having misrepresented its identity.
