A collection can contain seeds of differing condition, and their preparation or moisture exposure may also vary. Record emergence by individual seed or tray rather than treating the first sprout as the date for the entire batch. When comparing families, use the same observation schedule and handling method. Late emergence can complicate nursery scheduling, but it does not by itself establish that the resulting tree has inferior fruit genetics.
