Leaf appearance alone is an unreliable way to rank salt exclusion. Mango research found that visible scorch did not closely track leaf sodium or chloride concentrations across tested seedlings. Record irrigation-water quality and use suitable tissue analysis when evaluating an apparent difference. A plant with less visible injury deserves further investigation, but that observation is insufficient to advertise it as a broadly salt-tolerant rootstock.
