Seeds, Rootstocks & BreedingWhat does a mango rootstock contribute to a grafted tree?
The rootstock supplies the root system and the lower portion of the tree, while the scion supplies the selected fruiting cultivar. Rootstock choice can influence growth and productivity, but those effects require evidence for the combination being planted. Ask the nursery to identify both components. A label naming only the fruit cultivar leaves an important gap when comparing future performance or investigating inconsistent growth.
