Mango FAQ

1 FAQ

Seeds, Rootstocks & BreedingIs choosing mango parents from different countries enough to ensure genetic diversity?

Country of collection is useful background, but geographic labels do not fully describe genetic relationships. Mango germplasm research shows that genetic structure and geographic origin are related in complex ways. Combine origin records with genetic evidence and measured traits where possible. The goal is a purposeful parental combination, not simply the largest distance on a map or an assumption that every differently named introduction is unrelated.
