Use a repeatable route and defined observations that represent the block's variability. Record the proportion of canopy flowering or another clearly specified measure, together with stage and date. Avoid choosing only conspicuously flowering trees near the road. Keep weak areas and edge effects identifiable so changes in the block average can be distinguished from changes in where observations were made.
