Mango Varieties & IdentificationDoes the story of Pickering surviving the 1983 freeze establish a cold-hardiness rating?
The Pickering memorial article recounts survival of a particular seedling during a freeze. That historical anecdote does not provide a controlled temperature exposure, a repeatable injury threshold, or a guarantee for another site. Preserve it as part of the cultivar's selection story. Use local climate evidence and a protection plan when deciding how much cold risk to accept for a tree of your own.
