Kent's record distinguishes starting the seed, planting the tree, its first fruiting, and its later selection and naming. Those are separate milestones in a cultivar's development. If preparing a collection label or history note, say which event the date describes rather than calling all of them the introduction date. That preserves the sequence without making a normal developmental history look contradictory.
