Mango Varieties & IdentificationWas Wayne Pickering the person who selected the Pickering mango?
The cultivar record credits Walter Zill with selecting the seedling and identifies Wayne Pickering as the person honored by its name. The memorial article also distinguishes those roles. A namesake, selector, propagator, and owner of an original tree need not be the same person. Use the separate roles when recording its history rather than assuming the cultivar's name identifies its breeder.
