The guidelines assess cross-sectional shape at the broadest part, cut perpendicular to the fruit's length. A diagonal cut or a slice near the tip can give a different outline from the same fruit. Match the prescribed section before comparing shape categories. Otherwise the apparent cultivar difference may have been introduced by sample preparation.
