Record the main managed canopy height separately from the tallest extension, using the same ground reference each time. Note whether the exceptional shoots are intended replacements or unwanted regrowth. This distinguishes a generally oversized framework from a few shoots needing attention. Pair the measurements with a photograph so later comparisons do not suggest that the whole canopy grew by the length of one isolated upright shoot.
