Sun angle, canopy gaps, and position along the row affect readings beneath trees. Follow a repeatable measurement pattern with an appropriate reference for incoming light, recording conditions and timing. A convenient reading in one bright gap cannot represent the entire planting. Consistent sampling makes comparisons between pruning treatments or seasons more meaningful than isolated readings selected for convenience.
