Filling a cavity does not restore the tree's structural wood. Concrete or foam can interfere with inspection and moisture movement while leaving the original weakness unresolved. Keep the opening visible and have the tree assessed in relation to its remaining wood and surroundings. Tell future tree workers about any old filler already present, since hidden foreign material creates additional cutting hazards.
